This project was made using Bernat Satin. A good substitute would be Caron Simply Soft.

Pattern is a multiple of 8 + 2

With K hook, chain 194. Switch to J hook

INSTRUCTIONS

185 foundation sc, ch 1, turn.

Note: you can substitute ch 186, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch to end, ch 1, turn, for the foundations sc's.

ROW 1: (sc, dc) in first st,
*sk next st,
(sc, dc) in next st. Repeat from * to last 2 sts,
sk next st, sc in last st. ch 1, turn. (185 sts)

ROW 2 thru 17: Repeat row 1 – you will be skipping the dc's and placing stitches in the sc's.

At end of row 17, count 74 stitches from one end of scarf, place a marker in the 74th stitch. Do the same on the other end. The marked stitches and the stitches in between is where the looped stitches will go.

ROW 18: Repeat row 1 to the first marker.
insert hook in next st (with the marker),
with index finger of hand holding yarn, pull up a long loop about 1".

Keep your finger in the loop and place the hook behind the yarn and grab both strands of loop and pull thru st (you will have 3 loops on hook and your finger stuck in the loop), now slip your finger out of the loop and hold it (the loop, not your finger) down out of your way, yo pull yarn thru the 3 loops on hook. (loop st made) – move marker up to the loop st. Make a loop stitch in each stitch from marker to marker. move marker up to the last loop st made.

*sk next dc, (sc dc) in next st. Repeat from * to last 2 sts, sk next st, sc in last st.

Fold scarf in half with narrow ends together and right sides facing (loops are the right side of scarf). Starting at the fold, whip stitch a seam on the back of the scarf (side opposite of loops) about 10" or whatever is comfortable for you.


GRACIE'S SCARF - CHILD VERSION:

With J Hook, make 121 foundation sc.

or ch 122, sc in 2nd st from hook and in ea st across to end. (121 sts)

Follow pattern for adult scarf for 18 rows.

Fasten off

Place markers in the 40th st from ea end of scarf and make loop stitches in the spaces between the markers moving markers up as you go.

Follow pattern for adult scarf until you have 25 rows or scarf is as wide as you want.

fasten off and weave in ends.

FOUNDATION SC = ch 2, insert hook in first ch made, yo and pull yarn thru stitch (2 loops on hook)
yo and pull yarn thru ONE loop on hook (you just made a chain and there are still 2 loops left on hook, place a marker in that chain you just made so you will be able to see where to make the next foundation sc)

SKILL: EASY
STITCHES USED: single crochet, chain,

HOOK(S): P hook for scarf; (Q optional for beginning chain)
GAUGE: not important to project
YARN: scraps + About 3 ozs (170 yds) of a solid color

SIZE: 1 size fits most adults. Scarf measures about 60" long and about 4 1/2" wide. For longer or shorter scarf, adjust beginning chain. For wider scarf, do more rows.

PATTERN NOTES: Entire scarf worked holding 2 strands together, and worked in back loops only of stitches. I used a solid color as 1 strand and then I prepare a ball of scraps using either the Magic Ball method or the Russian Join Method.

MAGIC BALL - tie various lengths of yarn together, leaving a tail of about 1 inch. Roll the yarn into a ball. Center pull skein is not recommended for the magic ball. The tails will add interest to your finished project, unless you're like me, then it will add annoyance to your finished project, but either way, there is no need to weave in ends. Here's a link to the Magic Ball Method

RUSSIAN JOIN - weave one end of the yarn back into itself, leaving a loop on the end, thread the next piece of yarn through the loop and weave that end back through itself. Pull the ends to tighten the loops and trim off excess. Confused yet? Here's a couple of links with pictures to help you see what I'm talking about. Russian Join and Russian Join. This is by far my favorite way to join yarns.

INSTRUCTIONS

Using Q hook, ch 121. Switch to P hook

ROW 1: sc in top loop of 2nd ch from hook, sc in top loop of ea ch across. ch 1, turn.

DOT'S DOOHICKEY

2 oz, 113 yards, Worsted Weight Yarn (scraps are good)

K hook, or any size you like

Empty Pill Bottle, or Paper Clip dispenser, or any small bottle

GAUGE: not important for this project

STITCHES and ABBREVIATIONS USED:
sc - single crochet
ch - chain,
sl - slip stitch
ea - each

Skill - intermediate - just because it might be a bit awkward doing the potholder stitch.

This pattern is done using Helena's Potholder Stitch, which is simply a single crochet worked in different loops than normal. Instead of inserting your hook thru the top 2 loops of the single crochet, you insert your hook thru the back loop of stitch, and the unworked loop of the stitch in the row below. Then yarn over and pull yarn thru and complete the single crochet as usual. This will create a very thick, spongy fabric.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Make a chain as long as your bottle is tall. In this pattern here's how I did mine.

ROW 1: ch 9, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in ea st to end. ch 1, turn (8 sc)

ROW 2: working in back loops only, and bottom loops of chain on previous row, sc in ea st across. ch 1, turn (8 sc)

TIP: Your fabric will seem all bunched
up and not feel right. Keep going! Give it a chance!

ROW 3: working in back loops only, and unworked loops of previous row, sc in ea st across. ch 1, turn (8 sc)

Repeat row 3 until strip measures 26"

Fasten off, leaving a very long tail for sewing.

ASSEMBLY

Fold one end up so the bottle will fit snuggly inside, whip stitch across end to secure.

Roll strip up, like a jelly roll, and whip stitch other end to secure.

Following the spiral of the rolled up strip, whip stitch around the bottom.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Bag statistics: with the bag in a standing position and the bottom flat so it stands alone, height before extention is 4 ½"; height with extension is 7"; Circumference is almost 19". Please note that your measurements may not be exactly the same as mine. Measurements are just to give you an idea of the bag size.

Gauge: not important to this project.

I hook for main bag and G hook for extension

Yarn: 175 yds, 4 ply, worsted weight, main color; and 50 yds contrasting color.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS

This pattern stitch is called "peacock stitch" and is found on page 76 in "The Crochet Stitch Bible", by Betty Barnden.

Red Heart Super Saver yarn, I hook

SPECIALTY STITCH:
bp sl st = Back Post sl st.
Insert hook into designated hole from BACK to front, insert hook into next hole from FRONT to back. Your hook is now laying over a post, yo and pull thru both holes, and the loop on hook. BACK POST SL ST made.

ROW 1: ch 2, 7 sc in first ch. Do not join.

ROW 2: *1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc, all in the next st*. Repeat from * to * in each st around. Do not join. (7 petals)

Note: Look at the center of the flower. You'll see a center hole that was made by the stitches of row 1, and 7 holes made by the stitches of row 2. The sides of the holes is called the "post". The stitches of row 3 will be worked around these posts.

ROW 3: working in the hole made from the last petals, insert hook from BACK to front, around the post and into the next hole from front to back. yo and pull thru both holes, and the loop on hook. BACK POST SL ST made. ch 3, *bp sl st around the next post, ch 3,* repeat from * to * around, sl st in first ch. (7 ch-3 spaces).

This is Chelle's version of the Short Round Poncho. The picture shown is Chelle's finished baby outfit. She added the rose embellishment and made a matching headband. For the headband, K hook, I did:

Row 2: crossed bar st in first and next ch sp, ch 1, crossed bar st in same sp and in next ch

Row 3: Repeat row 2 until headband measures desired length before stretching.

Headband will stretch about an inch to fit also. At the end of your last crossed bar st row,

ch 1, turn

Last Row: sc in each st and sp across (7 sc)

Fasten off leaving long tail for sewing. Sew ends of headband together. Sew on crocheted flower or rose as desired to finish the look.

SHORT ROUND PONCHO

Finished poncho measures 11 1/2 inches from neckline to hem. I made this poncho to serve as a bed jacket to keep my shoulders warm. If you want a longer poncho, keep adding rows until it is as long as you desire.

Amount of yarn is approximate. I weighed the poncho after completion and it was a titch over 16 oz. I recycled a WIP and didn't have any labels to refer to.

Note 2: it's not really necessary to count rows, just continue until piece fits the way you like it.

TIP: If you're worried about the chain twisting, replace the beginning chain and row 1 with this... ch 91, sc in 2nd ch from hook, ch 1, sk 1 st, (sc in next st, ch 1, sk next st) across, join in first sc and continue with row 2. A simple stitch when you weave in ends will close the small gap that this will leave.

CURLS FOR SARAH'S SHELLS

1. Leaving a long tail, Ch 30, 2 dc in 4th ch from hook, 3 dc in next st to within 3 sts of end of chain, sl st in next st.

2. ch 25, 2 dc in 4th ch from hook, 3 dc in next st to end of chain, sl st in next st.

3. ch 25, 2 dc in 4th ch from hook, 3 dc in next st to end of chain, sl st in last st, then sl st in first dc of first curl. Leaving a long tail, fasten off. Do not weave in ends.

4. Tie the 2 tails together, and pull both tails through the center top of hat to the inside. Separate the tails and weave one tail under one or 2 stitches and weave the other tail under one or 2 stitches directly across from it.

5. Tie the tails into a bow if you wish to have the curls removeable or tie the tails in a knot if you want them to be permanent. Weave in ends if the curls will be a permanent part of the hat.

1. Work in back loops only unless instructed to use both loops. The unworked loops will be used later in the pattern.
2. Do not join at end of rows, use a marker to indicate beginnings of rows.
3. Number in ( ) at end of rows indicate number of stitches in that row.

With K hook
ch 64, join to form a circle. Be careful not to twist chain.

Switch to I hook

ROW 1: Ch 1, sc in each ch around. (64 sts)

ROW 2: sc in next st and in each st around. (64 sts)

ROW 3 thru ROW 10: repeat row 2. Using a sl st and work through both loops, join last st of row 10 to first st of row 10. (64 sts)

ROW 11: Turn, ch 3, sl st in 1st free loop of row 9, (ch 3, sl st in next st) around. Continue around, and around, and around following the spiral of the unworked loops, until you reach the foundation chain. Leave the loops of the foundation chain unworked. Fasten off and weave in ends.

TRIM:
Attach Boa yarn in both loops of any st of row 10, ch 2, (dc in next st) around, join in top of ch 2. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Repeat trim row on other side.
Attach Boa in any free loop of foundation ch, ch 2, (dc in next st) around.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

VARIATION: Skip the trim and work (ch 3, sc in next st), in all unworked loops, including row 10 and foundation row.

2 oz ww yarn
Number in ( ) at end of rows states number of stitches for that row.
Beginning ch 3 counts as 1st stitch. If you want to increase the length of the hat from crown to rim, repeat row 6.

Row 1: ch 4, 11 dc in 1st ch, join in 4th ch of beg ch. (12 sts)

Row 2: Ch 3, dc in same st as join, 2 dc in each st around. Join in top of ch 3. (24 sts)

Pictures show adult size totally looped, child size frooty loops, and adult sized striped.

Materials used: ww yarn; K and I hook for adult size and K and G hook for child size. Larger hook to make the hat and smaller hook to make the loops.


Work stitches in back loops only. The unworked loops of these stitches will be used later in the pattern. The hat is worked in a spiral. Do not join rows unless stated. Use a stitch marker to indicate the beginning stitch of each row. Numbers in ( ) at end of rows states total number stitches for that row.

Do not join. Place marker in first stitch of each row to indicate the beginning of the row.

You will place stitches in the unworked loops of each stitch and follow the natural spiral of the hat

Loop row 2: (ch 10, sl st in next st) around.

Repeat row 2 until hat is covered.

When you reach the top of the hat, you may have to do a few more chain 10 loops and sl st in the very beginning ch 4 circle, placing sl sts between the sc's of the first row. This is just to hide the beginning circle at the top of the hat and may not be necessary.

STRIPED VARIATION:

Loop row 1: Ch 1, turn, sl st in back loop of last sc you just made.
(Ch 10, sl st in back loop of next sc) around.
Drop main color and attach contrasting color. Do not break off main color.

Loop row 2: with contrasting color, (ch 10, sl st in next st) around. Drop contrasting color and pick up main color. Do not break off contrasting color.

Loop row 3: with main color, (ch 10, sl st in next st) around

Repeat Loop row 2 and Loop row 3 for as many rows as you want.

You can stop half way up for a Half Looped look or you can continue with the loop rows until you completely cover the hat, to achieve the Totally Looped look.

CHILD'S SIZE

Row 1 - 7: same as pattern for Adult size. (48)

Row 8 - 18: 1 sc in ea st around (48) do not break off.
At end of row 18, sl st in next st.

LOOP ROWS:

This hat is fairly large and it "grows" as you are making it. You might want to take this into consideration and adjust your hook sizes to suit your own needs.

I used an H hook and WW yarn. And 2 Small rubber bands

Rnd 1) make 18 sc around a rubber band, join in back loop of first sc.

NOTE: beginning ch 3 counts as 1st dc.

Rnd 2) working in back loop only for this round, ch 3, 1 dc in same space as join, 2 dc in each st, around, join (total sts = 36)

Rnd 3) ch 3, dc in same space as join, (dc in next st, 2 dc in next st) repeat around, join
(total sts = 54)

Rnd 4 - 8 ) ch 3, dc in each st.around, join (total sts for each round = 54)

Rnd 9 - 13) ch 1, sc in each st around, join
