CHILD'S RIBBED SLIPPERS

copyright © 02/23/06 Dot Matthews

SIZE: will fit child's foot 7" long and 3 1/2" tall
SKILL: easy
HOOKS: I hook for foundation chain and H hook for pattern
YARN: 112 yds. I used Red Heart Super Saver for this project
You will also need a tape measure, scissors and a tapestry needle
STITCHES USED: chain (ch); single crochet (sc)

You can make this slipper any size you want by following the general idea of this slipper, measure foot from toe to heel. Make a chain that long, then crochet until piece is a square. Gather one end tightly to form the toe of the slipper, stitch up about 2 inches to form the foot part of the slipper, fasten off. Stitch up opposite end to form the heel, fasten off. Make a few single crochet rows around the foot opening and add pom poms if desired. Weave in all ends.

This is how I made mine:

Leave a very long tail for sewing,

With I hook, ch 25. Switch to H hook

ROW 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and in ea ch across. (24 sc) ch 1, turn.

From now to end, work in back loop only of stitches

ROW 2: sc in ea st across. (24 sc) ch 1, turn.

ROW 3 thru 24: repeat row 2.

Fasten off, leaving a very long tail for sewing.

Using tapestry needle, thread tail and weave back and forth thru ends of rows and pull tightly to gather. Stitch seam about 2" up for foot. fasten off and weave in ends.

Thread beginning tail and stitch up opposite end of slipper to form heel. Fasten off and weave in ends.

TRIM
Attach yarn in center back of heel
ROW 1: ch 1, sc in same st yarn was attached, sc evenly around foot opening. Join in first sc.

ROW 2 thru 3: ch 1, sc in same st as join and in ea sc around. Join in first sc.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Optional: make 2 pom poms and attach to top of foot. I used a pom pom maker, but if you don't have one, here's some links explaining how to make pom poms.
